Dealing With AIDS And Workplace Health
The world looks to workplace health as the answer to one of the world?s most pressing concerns, healthcare. On average, the everyday worker spends more than one third of his or her life in the office and it?s only logical that programs at work should tackle employee health as this is shown to lower overall national healthcare costs. Looking at it at the company level, savings can be made in foreseeable future as employees are sick less often and won?t incur too much medical expenses.
Workplace health brings so much to the table that the government cannot overlook its ability to educate so many of the population. Employees who learn and are educated in the office can pass down the learning to their children, as everything eventually boils down to the family level. It is wise that both company and government work side by side to better able solve the healthcare crisis everyone is facing today.
This article looks closely on the current workplace health programs offered in companies today. Common programs such as breast cancer and cervical cancer for women employees, zero tolerance no smoking programs and diet and nutrition programs implemented via canteens and vending machines. At the end, one can see that these programs can be implemented in any workplace.
It may seem a bit strange to talk about AIDS in the workplace, but it is a potential threat in work, especially with how sexual relationships are now more frequent among coworkers. Some key issues everyone needs to know about AIDS are, the ways of contracting the virus, the dangers of AIDS, and the importance of having early and regular HIV screening. Until a cure for AIDS is discovered, workplace health programs such as these can do a lot in the battle against AIDS.
Since more and more women are now present in the workforce, having certain workplace health practices aimed specifically for women are advised. Among these is educating employees about breast cancer, as breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. Creating breast cancer awareness is a good thing, but giving free mammography screening is better as it helps women employee detect breast cancer early on.
Cervical cancer is also another issue that needs to be made aware among women employees. Companies should also promote and bear at least some of the cost of administering cervical cancer vaccines among its employees. Even though a person gets the vaccine, it is best if she continues to undergo Pap smear screenings according to best workplace health practices just in case.
One of the weirdest and most absurd thing in this world are people who continue to smoke knowing very well each puff they take kills them. As stress continues to build up at work, people find themselves smoking more and more at work. Smoking should never be allowed at work as it is proven smoking does not help anybody especially and deteriorates good workplace health.
We are what we eat, therefore food and nutrition should be a big part in any workplace health program. It?s about time we started eating healthy as eating healthy is definitely the first step to getting healthy. Employers can make sure canteens only serve the freshest and healthiest food to employees.
Workplace health concerns are wide and varied, and cannot be studied in one sitting. This article hopes that a joining of efforts between staff and management can produce a workplace that is safe and health risk free. It is definitely possible for the world?s healthcare problems to be solved by this decade.
